DIY Entertainment Club / Star Trek / Trek-mas

For this month I've picked something a little special for my DIY Entertainment Club. Call it a Christmas Present to myself as well as research materials. It's the Star Trek The Motion Pictures DVD Collection. Every single one of the Star Trek films that have been released to date.

With the upcoming Star Trek film slated to release May 8, 2009 I've decided to revisit all the Star Trek films. Now, this is kind of strange endeavour as it starts with original crew but ends somewhere else, and the new film is a prequel with the characters of the original crew. I considered watching them backwards from Nemesis to The Motion Picture but I just can't do it. I've also written what the order in which I like the films from best to least, but I've sealed it up until I've watched them all again and reassessed. I'm very curious to see if my opinion will stay the same over time.

I'll be talking about the films up until the release of the new Star Trek in May. You are welcome to play along! If you don't have the films, there is a Trek-Mas Movie Marathon over at Space on December 25, 2008 showing each of the films starting at 6:30am EST. That is a lot of Trek. I'm going to savour them one film at a time.

I'll be starting with Star Trek: The Motion Picture very early in the New Year which will be accompanied by a schedule of a countdown of all ten films.

Merry Trek-mas to all!

A Star Trek movie marathon sounds splendid to me. We've been picking them up as we find them cheap and have most of them. I'll try to chime in with my thoughts and opinions too. Can't wait to see the new movie coming out in May too!

Excellent investment Shannon! Perfect gift for yourself. I watched a lot of the Star Trek movies off and on the last couple of days on Space, it was the most Christmasy stuff on TV. :)

Okay! I'm drooling! I'm so IN this! I might even buy the collection because just seeing the pic on your post made all dreamy :)

I was surprised to read this entry on your blog, Shannon. IMO, Star Trek movies never get any respect from movie critics. I'm wondering how much of all the Star Trek television series you've seen.

I hope you enjoy "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" as much as I do. (OK, I admit it has its flaws.)

BTW, do you read my Treknobabble column over at Film Junk? I can't recall you commenting on any of my columns.

Anyway, I'll be following your Star Trek posts here at Movie Moxie.

Woohoo, sounds like we have some players already! The countdown schedule has been released:

Countdown to Star Trek Movie Marathon!

Reed, I've see a lot of the TV series. All of The Original Series, TNG, Voyager. I think I'm missing a few of DS9 at the end of Season 6/Beginning of Season 7. I didn't last long with Enterprize though ... just wasn't my style.

I'll check out Treknobabble! I have a habit of avoiding some stuff as I don't want to know anything about the upcoming film, but if it's spoiler free I'll be sure to read it!
