Film Fan Fridays for Friday September 4, 2009

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday September 4, 2009! It's a bit of a funny week as we head into Labour Day weekend I'd expect more releases this week but instead we only have 4 films and they are all wide releases and all from the States. It's like everyone feels like TIFF is starting this weekend instead of next! Enjoy your long weekend, in the theatre or out!

This Friday we have 3 wide releases, starting with Gamer starring Gerard Butler and Michael C Hall in a future world where entertainment involves a game where the gamers control players played by humans who are convicts. That's actually my pick of the week, it is about gaming after all, so it's ... research... yeah. We also have Extract, and even though I'm all for spoiler free trailers, this trailer all I saw was a non-prosperous workplace, random drug activity and Gene Simmons cameo. And that it's a comedy. Hmmm. Next up is All About Steve starring Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper in a rom com that mostly looks like wrong com. Oh bother, that was a pitiful pun. We do have a midweek release on Wednesday September 9, 2009 for the highly anticipated fantastical post-apocalyptic animated film 9.

Good thing the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) begins next Thursday, there will be ongoing festival coverage here at Movie Moxie and once the festival hits you can stop by and check out daily with vlogs, reviews and polls. Fun times ahead!

Have a great weekend!

I think this weekend is going to be rather quiet overall. Gamer and All About Steve are getting mid-big releases (about 2100-2500 theaters) and Extract about half that...

I think All About Steve and Gamer will do ok, but I expect a lot of the top 10 films to be in the 7-12 mil range in the US.

If I was in Toronto I would be all over that contest! *sigh* Extract is playing near here and so I was thinking of going but can't tell if I would like it or not. It's either that or Gamer, I think I might be leaning more towards that one...we'll see! Adventureland was awesome, I totally loved it.
