Film Fan Fridays for Friday October 9, 2009

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday October 9, 2009 and a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend to all! Only have a few releases this week, must be so that we can have more time for turkey! Who isn't a fan, of tryptophan?

In limited release this week we have two selections, Crude a documentary following environmental lawsuit between Ecuadorians and Chevron, a US oil corporation and Haeundae the big budget South Korean disaster film. Couldn't get more different if they tried! I think I might be going for fictional disaster as my pick.

In wide release this week we have two selections as well! What a balanced week. First up is the Best Canadian Feature winner from TIFF'09: Cairo Time. It's a romantic drama set in Egypt starring Patricia Clarkson & Alexander Siddig and looks quite compelling. Our second wide release is the comedy Couples Retreat starring Vince Vaughn & Kristen Bell.

We also have special screenings this weekend of the horror film Paranormal Activity, which has the potential to get a wide release in the future. According to the films website it's noted if they hit 1,000,000 'Demands' (clicks) they will wide release the film. Interesting tactic. They were at around 725,000 on Oct 8/09 in the evening. If you don't want to chance missing it, check it out late night this weekend at AMC Yonge & Dundas.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend! If you are feeling turkey friendly check out Space's
Viewer Choice Thanksgiving TurkeyThon for some crazy best-worst turkey films!

I'm going to try and get out and see Zombieland this weekend. I'll let my fellow film bloggers fill me in on if Couples Retreat is a DVD or TV movie.

I saw a preview for Cairo Time, it does look compelling! Of course I will always call him Basheer but that actor looks beautiful in it. That is one I would go to if I could. Man, I'll just say it again, with I could go to Paranormal Activity! I know that no matter how many clicks they get they won't be coming to my neck of the woods, darn it. Yes, clever idea indeed.
