People's Choice Awards 2010 Nominee Selections

Oh my goodness, is it awards season already? Let's start off light by having a look at the awards purely based on popularity! The People's Choice Awards now have their Nominee Selections for the 2010 Awards up and you can vote for who you want to be nominated making up to 5 selections per category. If your fave isn't included in the selections they have, you can add your own selection through the 'other' box. I had to do that a few times.

My favourite categories are the selections for Independent Movie and On Screen Team, but there seems a few odd things in the nominees. As much as I love Twilight, it's odd to see it here considering for favourite film it's a 2008 film. If memory serves they can be a bit looser than other awards, such as actors winning without having a film out that year. I'm also surprized to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Favourite Breakout Movie Actor, I could have imagined that the year of Brick but now? I mean people refer to him by acronym (JGL). You don't get an acronym unless people know you pretty well!

One last harp moment. Notice anything odd about Favourite Action Star and Favourite Comedic Star nominees. Looks like a boys only club there. What about Zoe Bell, Kate Beckinsale, Antje Traue, Emma Stone, Kristin Kreuk and Moon Bloodgood for Action Stars? And Kristen Wiig, Sandra Bullock, Zooey Deschanel, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Amanda Seyfried, Ellen Page and Jessica Biel for Comedic Stars? There are kick butt and funny ladies out there, folks!

I hate to be the grumpy old guy (even though I'm only 22) but this is without a doubt my least favorite award show as of late. I used to love it, but it seems to me that these shows are slowly being taken over more and more by teens. I'm all for people's choice awards show, but I think we have enough of them and they spend far too much time trying to tell everyone what "people" like.

Though I do wonder what they heck is their criteria for "Favourite Independent Movie"???

I did my voting the other day, did almost all write-ins... :\

It's not my fave show by far but I do think it's cool that it totally embraces it's own focus so completely. It's a popularity contest through-and-through.

It's true the Indie category was a little odd - I mean 17 Again? He's Just Not That Into You? The Time Traveller's Wife? Those are Indie? Really?

Thanks for point this out -- is this the first year in a long time that Will Smith isn't listed?

I have to admit, I never watch the peoples choice awards. I rarely agree with any of the nominees--I guess I'm not the norm? Whatever.

The smartest choice on their list is the Anna Kendrick nomination and the 500 Days of Summer nom.

Moxie: I'm with you, the indie category is strange.

As long as Miley Cyrus doesnt win anything, I would call the night a big success.

The Hangover should sweep. Iyt is a 2009 film afterall. Everybody start voting for The Hangover, a movie that actually deserves to win anything.

ugh, i don't understand why disney stars (taylor swift included) and TWILIGHT is in there? I mean, it should be at least new moon, not twilight. that movie was from, like 2 years ago x_x
as long as no twilight, disney people, and ESPECIALLY no taylor swift wins, i'll be overjoyed :D:D

taylor swift isn't a country singer.. i mean she has a few country songs but she doesn't deserve any country awards cause she isn't a true country artist.

Agree that it should be New Moon and not Twilight considering the year (save the 'Franchise' one), but I couldn't find their parameters and they do work their awards different than others.

Twilight usually wins anything it's nominated for where the public can vote. But, we'll see tomorrow night who will win!
