Poll Results: Will You Replace your DVD Collection with Blu-Ray's?

A whopping 46% of us say a resounding No to replacing out DVD collections with Blu-Ray's. I know I don't have a Blu-Ray player yet, but who knows what time will bring us. I think my favourite response here is the 7% who voted DVDs? I like my VHS. Rock on, stick to your guns.

46% - No
23% - No, I'll buy new Blu Rays but keep DVDs
12% - I'm Planning on It
7% - Tie: No, New Technology Will Come Out and DVDs? I like my VHS.
2% - Yes, Already Done

I was waiting for this post to add my comments :)

DVDs were quite the phenomenon. I remember my first DVDs being Saving Private Ryan, and the Matrix (which Walmart priced at $19 because they didn't know the difference between the DVD and the VHS copy), but I can't recall the last DVD I purchased that wasn't a gift or a throwaway cheapo bin DVD.

Originally I stopped buying DVDs because I knew blu-ray was coming, and figured, "why bother buying more of these?". Then I got TMN. Now, not only won't I be replacing my DVD collection, I don't think I'll be purchasing any blu-ray discs, unless they're for gifts, as between going to movies in theatres, and TMN, I have plenty to keep me entertained without gathering more discs into my house :).

The Matrix was one of my first films too! In fact I think it was free with my first DVD player along with Red Planet, hehe.

Interesting point of view and there certainly are a lot of methods to watch film not be it in the theatre or at home (and hopefully someday zip.ca will do streaming like NexFlix does in the States). There is lots to watch.

I still buy films for 2 reasons. One, I'm a big time repeat watcher, especially for fantasy, sci-fi and action. The other reason I buy some of the harder to get stuff is to be able to share it with folks.

Er.. and the 3rd reason I buy films it to support the people that made them. :)

I said the same thing before getting Blu-ray. In fact, I thought upconverting DVD's would suffice. Boy was I wrong. I have gone about methodically replacing all the movies in my DVD collection that I am likely to repeat view to Blu. Now having gotten used to Blu-ray, I simply am not able to watch the vastly inferior DVD image. I find it virtually impossible.
