I'm pleased to hear a good review about Legion. I really wanted to give it a chance, I'm going to check it out when Sundance is over.
Eraserhead is a crazy ass film. I don't know why I never put Lynch and Cronenberg together, but you're totally right, they're really similar.
Phew! Busy week! A few thoughts:
Cairo Time - happy to hear you enjoyed it. I saw it with a gf during the theatrical release. We had a great time with it as well.
High Life - sorry to hear it's not your cup of tea but thrilled to know you did still take some enjoyment from it. I had a fabulous time - looking forward to seeing it again!
Legion/Book of Eli - we're on opposite sides of the fence on these two. I really disliked Legion but agree that Bettany is fabulous. You just mentioned in passing that you didn't care for Book of Eli and I on the other hand really liked it. It's not perfect but for me, it had a lot going for it.
Jason and the Arg...- had never seen this until last year when it played on the big screen here as part of an FX festival. A whole lot of fun.
Eraserhead - messed up. I love Lynch but I've never really been able to wrap my head around Eraserhead. It's interesting.
The Proposal - Ryan Reynolds. Must see!
Feels like I'm in an Army of One for pro-Legion atm! It's definitely got issues but what I liked I really liked! Very curious to hear your thoughts Blake... enjoy Sundance ... me so jealous...
Marina I read your review and oh boy yep we definitely are on other sides of the fence on the Apoco-films! hehe.
Eraserhead is so messed up, but you can really see how it influenced other messed up films too! I was surprized at how Cronenbergian some of it felt but hey, I am still working through both of their filmographies.
I kinda new High Times wouldn't be for me, I almost didn't mention it because I am so not the target audience, save it being Canadian. Ah, well!
I really wanted to see Cairo Time and I agree, he will always be Basheer to me too! OK, good to know that Legion is pretty good and well, I will go just for Paul Bettany. I adore him. Everyone's saying this is his big year which rocks! Reg introduced me to The Warriors a year ago, that movie meant a lot to him as someone who could relate to troublesome youth way back when. What a cult classic and I really love that weird and spooky feeling that only 70s movies seem to have.
I am SHOCKED you liked The Proposal! Happily surprised. I didn't even know Betty White was in it, she always reminds me Auntie Laima for some reason, LOL. Now I HAVE to see it! :)
