Film Fan Fridays for Friday April 9, 2010

Hello Film Fans and Fanatics!

Welcome to Film Fan Fridays for Friday April 9, 2010! Well Torontonians, you are in for one lucky week at the theatre with amazing film after amazing film to choose from.

In limited release this week we have 5 releases to choose from, and this is where the tough choices begin as there are so many good films! First up is The Misfortunates / De helaasheid der dingen, a heartbreaking and hilarious Flemish family drama which was the biggest box-office hit of Belgium in 2009 and their 2010 Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film. We also have 2 (and a half with 1 co-pro) Canadian films in release including The Wild Hunt, a rare gem of a film with with a extremely strong narrative and compelling characters. It's set in the world of LARPing (Live Action Role Playing) and is a fictional exploration of when the mythical and real world collide. The Wild Hunt is a must see film, I saw it back at it TIFF'09 where it won Best Canadian First Feature at then again at Canada's Top Ten and I can't wait to see it again. Our second Canadian release of the week is Love at the Twilight Motel (opens Saturday April 10, 2010), a compelling documentary centred on portraits of patrons of private-entranced, rent by-the-hour motel rooms in Miami that is both enlightening and sensitive. Also in release this week is the Ireland/Canada co-production A Shine of Rainbows starring Connie Nielsen as a woman who brings hope to an orphan and the Irish film The Eclipse, a horror/drama with a strong supernatural vibe to it (but it's not the Twilight film - that will be in June 30, 2010).

In wide release this week we have just two releases, the Steve Carell and Tina Fey action slash comedy slash romance Date Night and Bollywood action/thriller Prince. Or if you are waiting for next week's release of Kick-Ass there are some late night showings popping up for Thursday April 15, 2010.

Have a great weekend!

Shannon

Weird, I guess The Runaways came out earlier where you are, it just came out here. We're hoping to go see it before it disappears.

I will certainly see Kick Ass, but probably not the late night show. Really sucks that it opens the next week, which is same week as Girl with The Dragon Tattoo *and* The Square.... I think they have similar audiences but that Kick-Ass will snag most of 'em.

The Runaways came out a few weeks ag here... it's been expanding it's release as it goes. I hope you'll like it Suzie! I'm impressed it's releasing there.
