DVD Releases for August 16, 2011

Time to take a look at a selection of DVD releases for Tuesday August 16, 2011!

  • Jane Eyre (2011) DVD Review film adaptation of the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, starring Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell& Judi Dench directed by Cary Fukunaga. Film was the March Book to Film Club selection and it's holding strong as one of my favourites as well as one of the best films of the year.
  • Meet Monica Velour I actually am quite curious to see this unlikely friendship story between as a former porn star (Kim Cattrall) and one of her big fans (Dustin Ingram).
  • The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom Another one I'm really wanting to see, this Canadian film set in 1976 follows a preteen who sets out to find the truth about her parentage, thought to be Dolly Parton.
  • Priest (2011) Pretty fun & slick vampire action movie starring Cast: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Lily Collins, directed by Scott Charles Stewart (Legion) and based on the graphic novel series by Min-Woo Hyung.
  • Idiots & Angels bizarre and surreal animation film from Bill Plympton, and I'm not afraid to say that it kinda freaked me out.
  • Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie documentary via a 'last lecture' from Canadian scientist, activist, environmentalist and educator David Suzuki.
  • The Bang Bang Club collective biopic centred on photographers Greg Marinovich, Kevin Carter, Ken Oosterbroek and Joao Silva, who documented the final days of white rule in South Africa.
  • Outcasts: Season One BBC post apocalyptic series with very awesome and familiar (hint: BSG) cast that just is (or possible just completed) it's run on Space. I started with this one and would have kept it up if the move hadn't thrown me for a loop, nice to see the whole shabang is available on DVD now.
  • Ghost Hunters International - The Complete First Season I've never caught this one but Suzie's mentioned it several times on Hexed as one of the non-fiction shows that might be fun to check out.
  • Dexter: The Fifth Season When did 5 season happen of this Michael C. Hall series? Seriously, where does the time go?
  • Something Borrowed Romantic comedy based on the novel by Emily Giffin, two friends who have one fall in the shadow of another until something start to change and morals come into question. Stars Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson, Colin Egglesfield and John Krasinski.
  • Hoodwinked Too: Hood Versus Evil Red and the gang are back to take on more nursery rhyme foes in this animated classic stories & fables mash up.
